Yeah, I don't doubt that you could get a good result by working with a store-bought curry - I've had that stuff and it's decent right off the bat. But there's a mellow depth to the homemade version that I appreciated. A lot would depend on how much time you have (and how much you like to hang out and cook.)
Homemade curry base is an interesting twist one does not usually see. Even Mourimoto recommends spicing up pre-made curry. Thanks for sharing.
